Our SciTech year has come to an end and we are already planning up all of the great things for next year. We have accomplished a lot and all of our girls have created some excellent projects. The girls from Hamilton, Halecrest, Kimbrough, Central, Cherokee Point, Millennial Tech, Johnson, Garfield, and Rosa Parks have participated in hands-on investigations of Mars, oils spills, and marine food webs. They also participated in the annual Tech Challenge, helping to rid the oceans of trash.

Take a look at this video of some of the awesome adventures we had in 2010-2011:

The SciTech after school program wrapped up another fun and educational year. We expanded the program to include seven different elementary schools (Kimbrough, Johnson, Halecrest, Rosa Parks, Hamilton, Central, and Cherokee Point) and recruited the help of high school mentors from Health Sciences High School. Throughout the year, the girls created electric board games, designed a butterfly garden, saved the universe from space junk, programmed robots, and made bubbling bath products. They also took a field trip to Torrey Pines State Reserve, where they used GPS units to hunt for hidden messages.

SciTech is an after school program developed by the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center for fourth through sixth grade girls at San Diego elementary schools. The girls meet twice a week to engage in hands-on science investigations on everything from solar car design to the chemistry of cosmetics. Through project-based learning, the girls make concrete connections to everyday life while developing creative thinking and problem solving skills that they will use throughout their lives.
